Aja is known for directing Crawl, the alligator horror movie produced by Sam Raimi that was released in 2019 and starred Kaya Scodelario. He’s also made the 2006 remake of The Hills Have Eyes, 2008’s Mirrors, 2010’s Piranha 3D, 2013’s Horns, 2016’s The 9th Life of Louis Drax, and, most recently, 2021’s Oxygen.
Never Let Go is written by Kevin Coughlin and Ryan Grassby. Shawn Levy, Dan Cohen, and Dan Levine serve as producers on the film alongside Aja.

Per Deadline, Berry said at CinemaCon in April 2024 that she had to “learn how to skin a squirrel” while prepping for her role in Never Let Go. She also said about the film, “This movie reminds me how I would protect my children in this life. We often say I would take a bullet for my kids. Would you take a knife for your kids? What would you do to protect your children?”
