What is T-Blockers about?
“ In small-town Australia, a nightmare is brewing,” the synopsis reads. “Sophie is a young filmmaker obsessed with finding a thought-to-be long-lost film. Meanwhile, an earthquake unleashes ancient parasites in the area that thrive on hatred, causing outbursts of violence. Now Sophie and her friends, struggling with dating and their undesirable jobs, must also face off against an ancient evil that spreads like wildfire.”
T-Blockers stars Lauren Last, Lewi Dawson, Joe Romeo, Chris Asimos, Joni Ayton-Kent, Stanley Browning, and Lisa Fanto.
Mackay previously made 2021’s So Vam and 2022’s Bad Girl Boogey. Along with directing, Mackay co-wrote the script with Benjamin Pahl Robinson and produced the movie alongside Erin Paterson.
“I am really excited to once again be partnering with Dark Star Pictures – this time for the North American release of T-Blockers, my third feature,” Mackay said of the movie, via Screen Daily. “It’s a colorful, campy horror film, that at its heart, is about friendships, community and overcoming the challenges that the trans community often face to not only survive but thrive. As both a 17-year-old (when the movie was made) and a trans woman, I wanted to create an empowering story that is ultimately about taking back, owning, and celebrating the right to be oneself!”
Having premiered at the Salem Horror Film Festival, T-Blockers releases in select theaters, along with on digital platforms and physical media, on March 5, 2024, from Dark Star Pictures.
