A24 has released a new trailer for Civil War, the upcoming political thriller written and directed by Alex Garland.
The new trailer for Garland and A24’s Civil War previews an intense thriller that sees the United States on the brink of collapse. What is Civil War about?
“In the near future, a team of journalists travel across the United States during a rapidly escalating civil war that has engulfed the entire nation, struggling to survive during a near-future where the government has become a dystopian dictatorship and partisan extremist militias regularly commit political violence,” the synopsis reads.
Civil War stars Kirsten Dunst, Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Jesse Plemons, Nick Offerman, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, and Jonica T. Gibbs. Gregory Goodman, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich serve as producers on the film.
Garland made his feature film directorial debut in 2014 with Ex Machina, which starred Domhnall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac, and Alicia Vikander. He followed that up with the Natalie Portman-led Annihilation in 2018 before he then went on to make Men with Jessie Buckley and Rory Kinnear in 2022. All three films were released by A24.
Additionally, Garland previously wrote 2002’s 28 Days Later, 2007’s Sunshine, and 2012’s Dredd.
According to IndieWire, Civil War had a budget of $50 million, making it A24’s most expensive movie to date. The movie was filmed in 2022 and was originally scheduled to release on April 26, 2024; however, A24 announced in January 2024 that the release date was being bumped up.
Civil War now hits in United States theaters on April 12, 2024.
