Universal Pictures has dropped a Strays video for its R-rated comedy, featuring commentary by its star-studded cast including Will Ferrell and Jamie Foxx. The video shows behind-the-scenes footage of the leading cast’s voice recording sessions, as they discussed about the film’s not-so-kid-friendly dog story.
The film is scheduled to make its debut in theaters on August 18. Its current theatrical release date will see the film going directly up against DC Studios’ Blue Beetle. It will also be debuting in the same month as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Meg 2: The Trench, The Last Voyage of the Demeter, and Gran Turismo.

What to Expect in Strays
“When Reggie, a naïve, relentlessly optimistic Border Terrier, is abandoned on the mean city streets by his lowlife owner, Doug, Reggie is certain that his beloved owner would never leave him on purpose,” reads the synopsis. “But once Reggie falls in with a fast-talking, foul-mouthed Boston Terrier named Bug, a stray who loves his freedom and believes that owners are for suckers, Reggie finally realizes he was in a toxic relationship and begins to see Doug for the heartless sleazeball that he is.”
Strays is directed by Josh Greenbaum from a screenplay written by Dan Perrault. It is described as a hilarious, R-rated, live-action comedy about the complications of love, the importance of great friendships, and the unexpected virtues of couch humping. Joining Ferrell and Foxx are Will Forte, Isla Fisher, Randall Park, Josh Gad, Harvey Guillén, Rob Riggle, Brett Gelman, Jamie Demetriou, and Sofia Vergara.
The film produced by Picturestart founder and CEO Erik Feig (Cha Cha Real Smooth), Louis Leterrier (Fast X), Dan Perrault (American Vandal), and Lord Miller partners Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse) and Lord Miller President of Film Aditya Sood (Cocaine Bear). It is executive produced by Jessica Switch, Nikki Baida, and Julia Hammer.
