Academy Award-winner Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose, The Dark Knight Rises) becomes the first international star to work with acclaimed Belgian filmmakers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne (Lorna’s Silence, The Kid with a Bike) for the stark drama Two Days, One Night, for which IFC has just released a trailer. Check it out below!
Here’s the synopsis: Sandra (Cotillard) has just returned to work after recovering from a serious bout with depression. Realizing that the company can operate with one fewer employee, management tells Sandra she is to be let go. After learning that her co-workers will vote to decide her fate on Monday morning, Sandra races against time over the course of the weekend, often with the help of her husband, to convince each of her fellow employees to sacrifice their much-needed bonuses so she can keep her job. With each encounter, Sandra is brought into a different world with unexpected results in this powerful statement on community solidarity.
Co-starring Fabrizio Rongione, Olivier Gourmet, Pili Groyne and Simon Caudry, Two Days, One Night is written and directed by the Dardenne Brothers, and after many critical accolades it is Belgium’s submission for the foreign language film category at the 87th Academy Awards. IFC will give the film a limited release for its Academy-qualifying run on December 24.
