Home Sweet Home Alone was first announced by former Disney CEO Bob Iger in 2019, after more than three decades since the Chris Columbus-directed first movie debuted in 1990. The Disney+ reboot is produced by Hutch Parker and Dan Wilson, with Jeremiah Samuels set as an executive producer.
The Home Alone franchise began with the fan-favorite 1990 original starring Macaulay Culkin, which went on to become the highest grossing film of that year, bringing in $476.6 million worldwide (equivalent to $934 million in 2019). It then went on to become a holiday franchise with five total films, only two of which starred Culkin.
