MGM has finally released the official Cyrano trailer for the upcoming musical film adaptation of Edmond Rostand’s classic French romantic play, starring Emmy winner Peter Dinklage. The film had its world premiere last September at the 2021 Telluride Film Festival. It is currently slated to arrive in U.S. theaters on Friday, December 31.
The video, which you can check out below, features Dinklage as the titular lovesick poet who finds himself stuck in an unlikely love triangle due to his feelings for his close friend, Roxanne. However, the the only way he could be able to express his secret love to the woman of his dreams is through writing poems on behalf of his new friend, who’s also in love with Roxanne.

Cyrano is directed by Joe Wright (Pride & Prejudice) from a screenplay written by veteran theater artist and Dinklage’s wife Erica Schmidt. The film stars Peter Dinklage (Game of Thrones), Haley Bennett (The Devil All The Time), Kelvin Harrison Jr. (The High Note), Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), and Bashir Salahuddin (A Simple Favor).
“Award-winning director Joe Wright envelops moviegoers in a symphony of emotions with music, romance, and beauty in Cyrano, re-imagining the timeless tale of a heartbreaking love triangle,” reads the official synopsis. “A man ahead of his time, Cyrano de Bergerac dazzles whether with ferocious wordplay at a verbal joust or with brilliant swordplay in a duel. But, convinced that his appearance renders him unworthy of the love of a devoted friend, the luminous Roxanne, Cyrano has yet to declare his feelings for her — and Roxanne has fallen in love, at first sight, with Christian.”

Cyrano is also based on Schmidt’s 2018 stage musical of the same name, which also featured Dinklage and Bennett in the leading roles. The film adaptation will features songs from The Nationals’ Aaron and Bryce Dessner, with lyrics from Matt Berninger and Carin Besser.
