Variety reports that Universal Pictures has won an auction for action-thriller The Hunt. The spec script was written by Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, who were co-creators of Lost and HBO’s The Leftovers. Craig Zobel (Z for Zachariah) will be joining as the director. This will have him teaming up again with previous The Leftovers collaborators Lindelof and Cuse.
Universal is currently mum on the plot for The Hunt. However, the film is in good hands. Universal-based Jason Blum will produce the film for his Blumhouse Productions. Blumhouse and Universal have had a successful string of film collaborations, especially in 2017. Their films Split, Get Out, and Happy Death Day were huge successes last year. Their latest project, Truth or Dare, will be released on April 13.
Damon Lindelof’s writing credits include World War Z and Prometheus. Nick Cuse got his start as a writer’s assistant on HBO’s The Leftovers and later became a story editor and writer. Craig Zobel directed several episodes of the show.
Cuse and Zobel will be executive produce alongside Jason Blum. Universal’s executive vice president of production Erik Baiers and vice president of production Jay Polidoro will oversee production for the studio.
