According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lucasfilm has teamed up with Watchmen series creator Damon Lindelof to develop a brand-new Star Wars movie. Earlier this year, rumors started circulating regarding Lindelof’s involvement on a Star Wars project. However, this marks the first time that multiple big outlets have confirmed it.
In addition, Oscar-winning filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has also signed on to direct the untitled project, which will be written by Lindelof. Obaid-Chinoy recently directed two episodes of Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series Ms. Marvel.

Further details about Lucasfilm’s newest Star Wars feature are still being kept under wraps. The studio currently has two untitled projects set for December 2025 and December 2027. It remains to be seen if Lindelof and Obaid-Chinoy’s film would take one of these release windows.
In 2020, the Emmy-winning writer revealed that he was interested in working on a Marvel Cinematic Universe project, saying it would be “potentially exciting for [him], especially as they start to get a little more experimental,” before later adding: “And, at some point, but certainly not in the immediate future, I feel like I would love to do something in the Star Wars universe. Maybe a decade from now when I would no longer be blamed for ruining it. That would be a hoot.”
