Moviehole is reporting that Jim Piddock, who wrote such comedies as Tooth Fairy and The Man, has been hired to write the screenplay for Fifty Shades of Grey, based on E. L. James’ #1 best-seller.
The site says: “The Brit, best known as an actor (his many credits include Best in Show, Get Him to the Greek and The Prestige), has written such films as Foxs Tooth Fairy starring Dwayne Johnson, The Man with Samuel L.Jackson and Eugene Levy, and A Different Loyalty, which he also acted in opposite Sharon Stone and Rupert Everett.
“Fifty Shades of Grey” follows the relationship of 27-year-old billionaire Christian Grey and college student Anastasia Steele. Subsequent novels in the series, “Fifty Shades Darker” (September 2011) and “Fifty Shades Freed” (January 2012) explore the couple’s deepening relationship.
Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced earlier this week that Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti will produce the film.
UPDATE: We’ve learned that the above is not true, Piddock is busy with a TV series and won’t have time.
