Variety reports The Handmaid’s Tale star Elisabeth Moss will star as lead Rosemary Kennedy in Ritesh Batra’s (Our Souls At Night) upcoming film, A Letter from Rosemary Kennedy. The film is based on a Black List spec script written by Nick Yarborough exploring the tragic story of the estranged sister of President John F. Kennedy. She endured immense hardship throughout her life because of her learning disabilities and development challenges and was kept hidden away from public life in order to satisfy the political aspirations of her father, Joseph Kennedy.
Mister Smith Entertainment will debut the film at the European Film Market and stated the film will be based on personal letters from Kennedy that illustrated “her wish to connect with her family and how her story became a catalyst for change and left behind a legacy for generation to follow.”
Jason Michael Berman (The Birth of a Nation), Kevin Turen (Assassination Nation) are set to produce the film and revealed they are “thrilled” to bring the “poignant and true story to life based on one of the hidden gems of the Kennedy family, with a masterful filmmaker in Ritesh Batra, the brilliant Elisabeth Moss, and a beautifully crafted screenplay by Nick Yarborough.” Moss, Richard Arlook, Allard Cantor, and Jarrod Murray are set to executive produce.
Moss has experienced a phenomenal year, starring in the Hulu series The Handmaid’s Tale in 2017 and providing a stellar performance as lead character, Offred, which ultimately earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. The second season of the hit series is set to premiere on April 25, 2018.
There is no release date as of yet for A Letter from Rosemary Kennedy.
