Alex Pettyfer is set to appear in Lee Daniels’ upcoming The Butler, reports Deadline. He joins a cast that already includes Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Jane Fonda, Cuba Gooding Jr, David Oyelowo, Lenny Kravitz, Terrence Howard and Minka Kelly.
Based on Wil Haygood’s report “A Butler Well Served by This Election,”, The Butler tells the true story of Eugene Allen and his 34 years at the White House. Allen worked for eight presidents, starting with Harry Truman in 1952 and ending in 1986 with Ronald Reagan. Haygood will be an associate producer and researcher on the project. Haygood noted that when Allen started work at the White House, he couldn’t even use the public restrooms when he ventured back to his native Virginia.
Pettyfer, best known for starring roles in Beastly, I Am Number Four and the upcoming Magic Mike, will play the part of Thomas Westphall with production set to begin next month in New Orleans.
