According to Deadline, Mel Gibson (Daddy’s Home 2) and Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier) are in talks to star in Boss Level, a Groundhog Day-style action thriller to be written and directed by Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team).
The film follows a retired special forces vet named Roy (Grillo) forced to relive his death in a never-ending loop. Roy has to figure out who is responsible and stop them in order to stop his endless suffering.
Boss Level will be produced and financed by Randall Emmett and George Furla of Emmett/Furla/Oasis, with Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian also serving as producers. Carnahan and Grillo’s War Party will executive produce alongside Scott Free’s Jules Daly.
Gibson will next be seen opposite Sean Penn in The Professor and the Madman and in Dragged Across Concrete with Vince Vaughn. He is also developing Lethal Weapon 5 with director Richard Donner, and may himself direct The Medicis. Grillo will next be seen in the sequel Beyond Skyline, and was announced recently to star in Joe Carnahan’s planned remake of The Raid.
