Amanda Peet has joined the cast of Universal Pictures’ Identity Thief, Variety reports. She’ll star opposite Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy in the Seth Gordon comedy.
The film features Bateman’s character as the victim of an identity theft by McCarthy’s character. Originally written for a male character on the criminal end of things, the script was reportedly rewritten specifically for McCarthy. Steve Conrad (The Weather Man, The Pursuit of Happyness) wrote the first draft with subsequent rewrites by Craig Mazin (The Hangover Part II).
There’s no word yet on what role Peet will play, but check back for updates as they become available and as the production begins production next month, taking advantage of the “Mike & Molly” hiatus.
