Project X ‘s Thomas Mann to Headline King Dork

Variety reports that Thomas Mann, who starred in Warner Bros.’ comedy hit Project X, will be taking a leading role in King Dork, the new comedy from Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions, once again teaming with NALA Films with Casa de mi Padre helmer Matt Piedmont directing.

It’s adapted from Frank Portman’s 2006 novel of the same name by D.V. DeVincentis (Grosse Point Blank, High Fidelity), telling the story of two high school outsiders, Tom and Sam, who get through the agony of school with their shared love of classic rock and roll. Mann will be playing Tom, while Keir Gilchrist, star of Focus Features’ It’s Kind of a Funny Story (in which Mann had a small part) is in contention for the role of Sam. Another Casa de mi Padre vet, “Parks and Recreation” star Nick Offerman, is also in talks to play Tom’s stepdad.

Before then, Mann will be co-starring in a couple of Paramount pictures, the teen comedy Fun Size and Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, as well as having just scored one of the leads in Alcon Entertainment’s Beautiful Creatures.

King Dork was the first project bought by Gary Sanchez when it launched in 2006 but was put into turnaround when it moved from Paramount Vantage to Sony.
