Already in production in Italy, Carlo Carlei’s Romeo and Juliet has now announced its full cast. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Tomas Arana, Christian Cooke, Damien Lewis, Lesley Manville, Natasha McElhone, Laura Morante, Stellan Skarsgard and Leon Vitali have all signed on.
The film, adapted by Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park, “Downton Abbey”), will star Douglas Booth and Hailee Steinfeld as the original star-crossed lovers with the previously attached Paul Giamatti as Friar Laurence, Ed Westwick as Tybalt and Kodi Smit-McPhee as Benvolio.
As for the new additions, Skarsgard will play Prince Escalus, Cooke is playing Mercutio, Lewis is portraying Lord Capulet, McElone is set for the role of Lady Capulet, Manville is playing the nurse, Arana will play Lord Montague, Morante is set for Lady Montague and Vitali is the apothecary.
The only major speaking role from the original play that appears to still be unaccounted for is that of Paris.
