French filmmaker Michel Hazanavicius has been presented with the top honor from the DGA (Directors Guild of America), their award for Outstanding Achievement in Feature Film, for his direction on the black and white silent film The Artist. The last eight directors to receive this honor have gone on to win the respective directing Oscar, and the last nine directors who won the DGA award, their movies went on to win Best Picture at the Oscars.
The DGA Award win continues The Artistâs strong run during the past month, which included Golden Globes, Critics Choice Awards and the top honor from the Producers Guild (PGA). Next up are the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, which will announce tomorrow night, Sunday, January 29.
Director James Marsh won the coinciding award for documentary directing for his 2011 film Project Nim, which didnât receive an Oscar nomination.
