We’ve known for some time that the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War would have a giant scope, with the Russo brothers themselves teasing as many 67 characters for the film. Speaking with Stephen Collbert (himself a resident of the Marvel Universe in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man) on The Late Show, star Scarlett Johansson teased a scene where over half of the gigantic cast together.
“I think in one particular scene, there’s like 32 of us, there’s a lot. There’s so many of us I don’t even know who’s a Marvel character and who’s a crew member, honestly.”
Including Johansson, the other confirmed cast members so far include Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olson, Chadwick Boseman, Sebastian Stan, Don Cheadle, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Zoe Saldana, Pom Klementieff, Benedict Cumberbatch, Sean Gunn, Tom Holland and Josh Brolin, which is still thirteen cast members shy of the characters said to be in the scene. Directors Anthony and Joe Russo, who return after Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War, will direct both Avengers: Infinity War and the untitled fourth film which will be filmed back-to-back in Atlanta and are written by screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. Both films will also be shot entirely with IMAX cameras. Filming officially started on Monday, January 23, 2017 for the Avengers sequel, which sees Earth’s Mightiest Heroes teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to take on Brolin’s Thanos.
Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War is slated for a release in theaters on May 4, 2018, with the still-untitled fourth Avengers movie set for May 3, 2019.
