Originally in development at DreamWorks but taken off the schedule earlier this year, Southpaw is back on track at MGM, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter. Antoine Fuqua (Training Day) will direct and Sony Pictures will distribute.
Written by “Sons of Anarchy” creator/executive producer Kurt Sutter, the film will star rapper/actor Eminem as a left-handed welterweight boxer whose career is marked by a fast rise, a dramatic fall and a fight to reclaim his former glory.
Originally described by Sutter as a sort of metaphoric sequel to 8 Mile, the film will be produced by Eminem’s Shady Films managers and producing partners Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr, and Alan and Peter Riche of Riche Productions.
