Titles arriving Tuesday, October 27 include The Gift, Max, Pixels and the last edition of Army of Darkness you’ll ever need to own

Actor Joel Edgerton makes an impressive feature film debut as writer and director with the intense original thriller The Gift, which comes home October 27. Also fresh from the big screen is Max, the story of a trained military dog who enters a boy’s life after the death of his Marine brother, and Pixels, the comedy action adventure that offers the spectacle of ’80s video games come to life. Antoine Fuqua’s Southpawrounds out the list of recent theatrical titles with the story of a boxer (Jake Gyllenhaal) who is forced to rebuild his life after he loses everything.
There are quite a few Halloween-friendly titles arriving October 27 with Scream Factory‘s three-disc Amy of Darknessleading the charge. Although the Evil Dead trilogy has infamously been rereleased over and over through the years, this new Army of Darkness set is far and away the most comprehensive edition of the film that has ever been made available, offering the theatrical, international and director’s cuts with a copious amount of special features.
Scream Factory also has a treat for Human Centipede fans, delivering The Human Centipede: The Complete Sequenceon October 27. Included are all three films in Tom Six’s gross-out horror franchise, also backed by a significant amount of supplemental material.
Arrow Films follows Scream Factory’s impressive lead with Black Cats, a deluxe two-film set that includes both Sergio Martino and Lucio Fulci’s big screen adaptations of the Edgar Allen Poe tale. Olive Films, meanwhile, offers up the obscure 1986 horror feature Breedersas well as Saul Bass’ sole directorial feature, the killer ants tale, Phase IV.
Criterion this week adds David Lynch’s Mulholland Drto the collection. The modern classic is the second Lynch film to join the collection, following last year’s release of his debut feature, Eraserhead.
This week also sees a few titles hit Digital HD, including director Guy Ritchie’s big screen take on the classic spy series The Man From U.N.C.L.E.and director Bill Condon’s Mr. Holmes, starring Ian McKellen as an elderly Sherlock Holmes, trying to find his place between truth and fiction. There’s also the first season of HBO‘s The Brink, starring Jack Black and Tim Robbins.
