Universal Pictures has announced a release release date for Legendary’s Skyscraper, a major action tentpole led by superstar Dwayne Johnson (Furious 7, San Andreas). The film, which will reteam Johnson with his Central Intelligence director Rawson Marshall Thurber, will bow on Friday, July 13, 2018. Currently also occupying that release date are Sony’s animated sequel Hotel Transylvania 3, Paramount’s original animated feature Amusement Park, and New Line’s The Conjuring 2 spin-off The Nun. Its more direct competition will be a pair of comic book movies: Ant-Man and the Wasp the week before on July 6, and Alita: Battle Angel the week after on July 20.
Johnson posted even more details on his Instagram:
Global icon Dwayne Johnson leads the cast of Legendary’s Skyscraper as former FBI Hostage Rescue Team leader and U.S. war veteran Will Ford, who now assesses security for skyscrapers. On assignment in China he finds the tallest, safest building in the world suddenly ablaze, and he’s been framed for it. A wanted man on the run, Will must find those responsible, clear his name and somehow rescue his family who is trapped inside the building…above the fire line.
Written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber (Central Intelligence, We’re the Millers), the 3D action-thriller is produced by Beau Flynn (San Andreas, Baywatch), Johnson and Thurber. Skyscraper’s executive producers are Dany Garcia (Baywatch, Ballers) and Hiram Garcia (San Andreas, Central Intelligence). Wendy Jacobson (San Andreas) is co-producer.
With one of the busiest schedules in Hollywood, Johnson will next be seen reprising Hobbs in Fate of the Furious on April 14, in Baywatch on May 26, in Season 3 of HBO’s Ballers on July 23, and leading the Jumanji reboot on December 22.
