Dwayne Johnson’s Production Company Signs First-Look Deal with Disney

Seven Bucks Productions, the production company co-founded by Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia, has signed a first-look deal with The Walt Disney Company.

Per Variety, Johnson and Garcia’s Seven Bucks Productions has signed a first-look deal with Disney to develop movies intended to be released theatrically and on streaming.

“The projects will be possible vehicles for Johnson to star in and, interestingly, the deal is not strictly limited to filmed content,” Variety’s article notes. The multi-year deal will also give Seven Bucks an opportunity to collaborate “across all Disney divisions.”

Dwayne Johnson, Seven Bucks Productions, and Disney have a long history of working together

Seven Bucks Productions has been involved with a number of films starring Johnson, including 2017’s Baywatch, 2017’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, 2018’s Rampage, 2018’s Skyscraper, 2019’s Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw, 2019’s Jumanji: The Next Level, 2021’s Jungle Cruise, 2021’s Red Notice, and 2022’s Black Adam.

Additionally, the studio is involved with Jake Kasdan’s Red One, a Christmas movie starring Johnson and Chris Evans that will be released this coming November, and Benny Safdie’s The Smashing Machine, a new A24 film releasing this December that will see Johnson play Mark Kerr.

In addition to Jungle Cruise, Seven Bucks Productions worked with Disney on Behind the Attraction, a documentary series that premiered in 2021 that analyzes the history of Disney attractions.

Johnson has also starred in Disney movies such as 2007’s The Game Plan and 2009’s Race to Witch Mountain. He voiced Maui in 2016’s Moana and will soon reprise the role in Moana 2, which releases this November.
