Although Jason Bateman is chronically one of the busiest actors doing studio comedies, according to Variety, he’s found the time to get himself into talks for two independent movies, Peter Glanz’s The Longest Week, which will reunite him with his The Change-Up co-star Olivia Wilde, and the ensemble movie Disconnect, directed by Henry-Alex Rubin (co-director of the doc Murderball).
In The Longest Week, Bateman would play “a man who lives a life of leisure in his parents’ prestigious Manhattan hotel, who finds himself evicted, disinherited and in love,” while Disconnect would put him among a group of characters, played by Alexander Skarsgard, Frank Grillo, Andrea Riseborough, Colin Ford and Michael Nyqvist, who have had their lives affected by the internet and other forms of modern communication. Bateman would play Ford’s father in that movie, which was written by Andrew Stern and is being produced by Liddell Entertainment.
Plans are to shoot the movies subsequently in October and November, before filming two more comedies for Universal, The I.D. Theft with recent Emmy winner Melissa McCarthy and The Insane Laws, which will reunite Bateman with Vince Vaughn.
