Producers Lorenzo di Bonaventura (“Transformers” movies) and Odd Lot Entertainment’s Gigi Pritzker have teamed up to bring the classic arcade game Space Invaders to the big screen. Di Bonaventura is also producing the upcoming Asteroids adaptation.
The duo is now searching for a writer to adapt the game, which was designed by Tomohiro Nishikado and released in 1978. The game was later licensed for production in the United States by Midway.
As with Asteroids, the game does not have a built-in mythology, so the filmmakers will have to come up with a captivating universe.
Di Bonaventura is also a producer on the “G.I. Joe” movies.
