Rachel Weisz could take the female lead in director Tony Gilroy’s The Bourne Legacy, Deadline reports.
The film, a spinoff of the popular Robert Ludlum-adapted franchise, will star Jeremy Renner as a new government operative who has come out of a program even more dangerous than the one that spawned Jason Bourne.
Weisz, whose potential role is unspecified, won a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in 2006’s The Constant Gardener. She will next appear opposite Tom Hiddleston in the romantic drama The Deep Blue Sea and is said to be up for a villainous role in Sam Raimi’s Oz, the Great and Powerful. It remains to be seen whether she’ll have to pick one project over the other.
The Bourne Legacy is expected to start shooting in September with a release planned for August 3, 2012.
