The Hollywood Reporter says Steven Soderbergh (wasn’t he retiring?) and Channing Tatum are reteaming for stripper comedy Magic Mike, based on the actor’s real-life experiences as a stripper when he was 19 years old in Tampa.
Soderbergh and Tatum worked together on the upcoming action-thriller Haywire.
In the new project, Tatum will play Magic Mike, who schools a young dancer in the tricks of the trade.
The film will be produced by Nick Wechsler, Gregory Jacobs, Tatum and Reid Carolin, who is also writing the script.
“It’s sexy, funny and shocking. We’re using ‘Saturday Night Fever’ as our model, so hopefully we’re on the right track,” Soderbergh said in a statement.
Added Tatum, “This was a wild and pivotal time in my life and I couldn’t be more thrilled to go down the rabbit hole with Steven.”
