Outside of a teaser shot before production even started, we’ve seen very little of J.J. Abram’s mysterious Super 8, set to hit theaters on June 10th. That’s all changed now, though, as today’s Super Bowl XLV offers a new look at the Steven Spielberg-produced project, which you can check out at the bottom of this page.
Abrams, meanwhile, has just revealed to The LA Times a number of details about the film, including the confirmation of the long-rumored plot which will feature six children who, in 1979, are trying to make their own zombie movie, shot on Super 8 film. One night, they happen to capture on film a violent train accident that sets loose a otherworldly beast.
Abrams confirms that Super 8 started as two completely separate ideas: a coming of age drama and a monster movie, but that the combination of the two really fueled his inspiration.
“This is a movie about overcoming loss and finding your way again and finding your own voice,” Abrams says of the film’s tone, “A boy whose lost his mother and the man whose lost his wife. Theres this father who, because of the era, never really had to be the parent. Hes a good man, he works hard, he’s a deputy in the town, but hes never stepped up as father.”
