Emma Stone is the latest name to be added to the short list for the female lead in Marc Webb’s 3D reboot of the Spider-Man franchise and also may be up for a role in her Superbad costar’s adaptation of 21 Jump Street, writes Variety.
Stone’s performance in Sony’s current release of Easy A helped the film rake in more than double its original production budget in just the first weekend.
Also added to the previous list of Spider-Man candidates is Alice in Wonderland‘s Mia Wasikowska, joining Lily Collins (The Blind Side, Priest), Ophelia Lovibond (Nowhere Boy), Imogen Poots (28 Weeks Later, the upcoming remake of Fright Night), Teresa Palmer (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, I Am Number Four) and Emma Roberts (Hotel for Dogs, Valentine’s Day).
Interestingly, Entertainment Weekly reports that both Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy will appear in the film, something that is not confirmed at this point.
Spider-Man enters production soon and is being targeted for a July 3rd, 2012 release. 21 Jump Street is also targeted for an unspecified date in 2012.
