Director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) is in talks with Universal about an English-language remake of hit Russian sci-fi thriller Black Lightning, which he produced, says Variety.
Bekmambetov also said there were also plans for a Russian-Chinese sequel to the film about a car-mad student who supertunes an old Soviet sedan and runs up against the criminal underground.
Bekmambetov is moving forward with Tim Burton and Wanted producer Jim Lemley on a film adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s best-seller Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter as well.
“This will be a serious but entertaining movie that deals with the most interesting and powerful person of the 19th century within an imaginary scenario that he was also an ax-wielding vampire hunter,” Bekmambetov said.
The director will be producing director Chris Gorak’s alien invasion thriller The Darkest Hour, which begins shooting in Moscow in July.
