The Tribeca Film Festival has announced its Closing Gala Premiere, Freakonomics, a documentary based on Steven Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner’s bestseller “Freakonomics: A Rogue Economist Exposes the Hidden Side of Everything.” The movie is a veritable supergroup of some of the top documentary filmmakers of the past decade, including many Oscar winners and nominees. The book which spent two years on the New York Times bestseller list is being brought to the screen by directors Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room), Morgan Spurlock (Super Size Me), Rachel Grady and Heidi Ewing (Jesus Camp), Eugene Jarecki (Why We Fight) and Seth Gordon (The King of Kong).
At the same time, the festival has announced that Summit Entertainment’s summer romance film Letters to Juliet starring Amanda Seyfried and Vanessa Redgraves, will premiere at the 9th annual film festival, as will My Own Love Song, the first English language film from Olivier Dahan, director of the Oscar-winning 2007 film La Vie en Rose, a road comedy starring Forest Whitaker and Renée Zellweger, and featuring original music from Bob Dylan.
