20th Century Fox has announced that Alvin and the Chipmunks 3D, the third installment in the franchise, is coming to theaters on December 16, 2011. Combined, the first two films earned an impressive $791 million in theaters worldwide.
Fox has also decided to move back Oliver Stone’s Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps from April 23 to September 24. The studio is hoping that the film will be included in the Cannes Film Festival in May. Other movies scheduled for Sept. 24 are The Eagle of the Ninth, Legend of the Guardians and You Again.
The studio has moved Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz-starrer Knight & Day up a week to June 25th as well. The film faces Grown Ups in that new slot.
This week, Disney also set a March 11, 2011 release date for Mars Needs Moms!, director Simon Wells’ 3D adaptation of the children’s book by Berkeley Breathed. Seth Green, Mindy Serling, Dan Fogler and Joan Cusack will voice the film. The movie has the date to itself so far.
A week after the third “Chipmunks” movie Paramount Pictures will release Steven Spielberg’s The Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn on December 23, 2011.
