According to Variety, acclaimed actress Greta Gerwig (Mistress America, Frances Ha) is set to co-star with Academy Award winner Natalie Portman in the biopic Jackie, based on the life of former First Lady Jackie Kennedy. She will play an aid to the title icon, with Peter Sarsgaard as President John F. Kennedy’s brother Robert.
Natalie Portman is attached to star in Jackie (originally conceived for Rachel Weisz), about the immediate days following President Kennedy’s assassination. The film catalogs the four days between JFK’s assassination and his burial, showing the beloved Kennedy at both her most vulnerable and her most graceful.
Pablo Larrain (No, The Club) will direct the film from a screenplay by Noah Oppenheim (The Divergent Series: Allegiant, The Maze Runner). Darren Aronofsky and his Protozoa Pictures partner Scott Franklin are producing along with Juan de Dios Larrain of Chile’s Fabula, with production set to begin at the tail end of 2015.
Gerwig will next star in Todd Solondz’s pseudo-sequel to Welcome to the Dollhouse titled Wiener-Dog alongside Brie Larson and Danny DeVito, and will also co-star in the ’70s-era film 20th Century Women opposite Elle Fanning and Billy Crudup.
