Today’s MPAA ratings bulletin delivers a couple of potential Oscar contenders beginning with Steven Spielberg‘s Cold War thriller starring Tom Hanks, Bridge of Spies. No surprise this one is rated PG-13 and a tame one at that and it’s not much different when it comes to Peter Landesman‘s NFL head injury drama Concussion starring Will Smith.
A lengthy bit of reasoning accompanies the PG-13 for Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials and there’s a lot said about Paramount’s R-rated Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse. A24’s Room, however, starring Brie Larson gets a concise and to the point R rating for language. Nuff said.
Also included is Incarnate, a new Blumhouse horror from director Brad Peyton (San Andreas) and starring Carice van Houten, Aaron Eckhart, Catalina Sandino Moreno and Keir O’Donnell. IMDb says the thriller will play in Belgium in September, but I wouldn’t be surprised to hear about this one playing the Midnight Madness selection at TIFF. Apparently it centers on a wheelchair-bound exorcist is able to enter the subconscious minds of the possessed.
Also, Daughter of God is a new drama from Gee Malik Linton that apparently Lionsgate is distributing and it stars Keanu Reeves and Mira Sorvino in a story centered on a young Latina woman who experiences strange things after witnessing a miracle as a police detective (Reeves) searches for the truth behind his partner’s death
