We’re still three weeks away from the release of Marvel’s Ant-Man, but some press has already gone on Twitter to give early reactions. While most of them seem to be generally positive, there are some detractors. However, the most interesting aspect of the early reaction is the mention of not one but two end credits scenes, and apparently, they are huge.
With the embargo in place, we still have to wait for the full reviews, but some on Twitter are calling Ant-Man “ hugely entertaining, and a truly significant puzzle piece in the Marvel Universe,” “a softer, more intimate Marvel movie and a great family film,” and “it’s Marvel’s version of Ocean’s 11. Great cast, slick score and two wonderful post-credits scenes“. However, there are negative tweets, including one saying, “Sadly ‘Ant-Man’ falls flat in almost every way.”
Like what happens with most Marvel films, the talk has turned away from reaction to Ant-Man and more speculation as to what the two end credits scenes are. After the so-so end credits scene in Avengers: Age of Ultron, fans have lowered their expectations when it comes to these scenes. Some have been great, with Iron Man having perhaps the best stinger, while others have been not-so-great (I’m looking at you, Collector scene at the end of Thor: The Dark World!). So, what could be in these two scenes that causes someone to call them “huge“?
As per Marvel tradition, one of the scenes normally relates back to the film you watched, so I imagine it’ll have Ant-Man integrated into the Avengers somehow. Either Tony Stark comes to visit him and invite him, or perhaps we’ll see Ant-Man go to the New Avengers facility. While cool in its own right, not anything that is amazing.
So, what is it? Spider-Man. It has to be Spider-Man, right? The post-credits scene is the one that is being referenced as the big deal. Considering they just announced Tom Holland as Spider-Man, it’s unlikely they had him available in time to shoot a scene for Ant-Man. They could easily have a CGI Spider-man swinging around, showing that he does currently exist in the MCU. However they manage to do it, I feel confident that this is where we’ll see Spider-Man for the first time. The buzz around even a quick appearance could also boost ticket sales for Ant-Man.
I can’t deny that I’m becoming fully swept up in the hype for this film. I lowered my expectations after the first trailer seemed far too serious, but after the most recent trailers and the early reaction, it looks like Marvel Studios has another hit on their hands.
Ant-Man will be released July 17.
