Will the reaction to Woody Allen‘s Irrational Man be more about the movie or the man that wrote and directed it. While there are no official plot details, word is it centers on a college professor (Joaquin Phoenix) and one of his students (Emma Stone). Of course, given Allen’s history, alleged and otherwise, with young women, and recent comments from Manhattan co-star Muriel Hemingway, this will likely result in plenty of “separating the art from the artist” think pieces, though that typically seems to get louder depending on how the movie is received.
With Sony Classics slating a July 17 release date it seems we may have an early reaction to this one soon with Cannes around the corner and Allen’s films being frequent inclusions in the line-up.
