Luke Bracey is Your New Johnny Utah in ‘Point Break’ Remake

Before Keanu Reeves starred as Johnny Utah in Kathryn Bigelow‘s Point Break his biggest role came two years earlier in Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure as I don’t think anyone was casting him in either role for his performance in Stephen FrearsDangerous Liaisons a year earlier.

Now, Point Break is getting a remake with Ericson Core (Invincible) directing and Gerard Butler has already joined the production in as Bodhi, a role originally played by Patrick Swayze, and a new Johnny Utah has been found in Luke Bracey, whose most recent role didn’t even allow him to show his face as he played Cobra Commander in 2013’s G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

Bracey will likely be more recognizable to Selena Gomez fans who will recognize him from 2011’s Monte Carlo where he played Riley. For the rest of us, we can just consider him an unknown.

Expected to hit theaters in 2015, the remake will follow a similar premise as the first as an FBI agent (Bracey) goes undercover to catch a gang of bank robbers, though instead of being predominantly surfers, this time around they’ll be into extreme sports. Kurt Wimmer whose track record is a little cloudy with Salt, Street Kings and the Total Recall screenplay wrote the script.
