Though I thought it was already a done deal, Sony Classics announced today they have officially acquired Woody Allen‘s latest film, Magic in the Moonlight for distribution and I can only assume they will premiere the pic at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Starring Eileen Atkins, Colin Firth, Marcia Gay Harden, Hamish Linklater, Simon McBurney, Emma Stone and Jacki Weaver, the film is a romantic comedy about an Englishman brought in to help unmask a possible swindle. Personal and professional complications ensue. The film is set in the south of France in the 1920s against a backdrop of wealthy mansions, the Côte d’Azur, jazz joints and fashionable spots for the wealthy of the Jazz Age.
Ironically enough, I named the film one of my this morning.
Allen is set to be honored this weekend as the Cecil B. DeMille Award winner at the 2014 Golden Globes, but it has already been confirmed he won’t be on hand to accept the honor.
