Why am I Anticipating It?

Because everyone I know that has seen it loved it and I am still pissed it screened at the Seattle International Film Festival last year while I was still in Cannes. I have heard it is absolutely hilarious and it is finally coming to theaters and I cannot wait.

Two hillbillies are suspected of being killers by a group of college kids camping near the duo’s West Virginian cabin. As the body count accidentally climbs so does the fear and confusion as the college kids try to seek revenge against the pair, who believe that the kids are on some sort of suicide pact. Preconceptions and misunderstandings abound as horror and hilarity occupy the screen side by side.

The love people have for the play combined with the talent involved simply makes it sound like something I am going to enjoy. Although, I sort of get the feeling this is a film Mike Nichols should have directed.

Based on Yasmina Reza’s Tony Award-winning drama, the story is set in contemporary Brooklyn, New York. Carnage centers on two pairs of parents one of whose child has hurt the other at a public park, who meet to discuss the matter in a civilized manner. However, as the evening goes on, the parents become increasingly childish, resulting in the evening devolving into chaos.

Why am I Anticipating It?

Because I had never seen a Whit Stillman film until Criterion released The Last Days of Disco and then I watched Metropolitan and still need to see Barcelona. Stillman’s wit and ability to write dialogue is fantastic and I can’t wait to see what he’s put together for this latest cast.

Violet Wister’s Damsels in Distress is a comedy that follows a trio of beautiful girls who set out to revolutionize life at a grungy East Coast university — the dynamic leader Violet Wister (Gerwig), principled Rose (Megalyn Echikunwoke) and sexy Heather (Carrie MacLemore). They welcome transfer student Lily (Tipton) into their group which seeks to help severely depressed students with a program of good scent and musical dance numbers. The girls become romantically entangled with a series of men –including slick Charlie (Brody), dreamboat Xavier (Hugo Becker) and the mad frat pack of Frank (Ryan Metcalf) and Thor (Billy Magnussen) — who threaten the girls’ friendship and sanity.

Once again, cast and director. A film with Michael Fassbender, Viggo Mortensen, Keira Knightley and Vincent Cassel directed by David Cronenberg is pretty much a film you don’t need any additional reasons to see… you already have five of them.

Keira Knightley will play Sabina, a disturbed young woman brought to see Jung by her father after which Jung and Sabina have an affair.
