READER POLL: You Predict the 2010 Oscar Award Winners!

Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Original Screenplay
Best Film Editing
I was hoping to break out some stat showing how the editing award parallels the Best Picture award, but only 5 of the last 10 Best Picture winners also won Best Editing. So I guess you could look at the fact the American Cinema Editors chose The Hurt Locker, The Hangover and Up as the best of editing in 2009 and go from there.
Best Cinematography
Best Art Direction
I guess you could also add Art Direction to the list of “tough to pick” as well considering the Art Directors Guild did us no favors by selecting both Avatar (Fantasy category) and Sherlock Holmes (Period category) as winners. Taking that into consideration, Avatar‘s Rick Carter was nominated for an Oscar for his work on 1994’s Forrest Gump, but Sherlock Holmes art directors Sarah Greenwood and Katie Spencer have been nominated as a team twice before for both Atonement and Pride and Prejudice. Perhaps the third time’s a charm?
Best Costume Design
Best Makeup
I guess this one could surprise us, but I have a pretty good feeling which makeup team will be holding the Oscar statuette.
Best Original Score
I wasn’t all that impressed with any of the scores from 2009, but as you can see in the video below one team is trying to make their case.
Best Original Song
This one’s a no-brainer as the song-writing is one of the two things that made this cliche-ridden film so great.
Best Sound Editing
Ooooh, the sound categories are certainly a couple of interesting ones as two films are certain to battle it out for supremacy. The guilds have offered hints as to which way to predict, but will you follow their lead?
Best Sound Mixing
Ditto what was said above, and if you haven’t checked out the guild results you may want to click here to get some idea as to which film to pick.
Best Visual Effects
Best Animated Film
A.O. Scott on “At the Movies” picked The Princess and the Frog… I think, just to stir up the pot, because there is an obvious front-runner and one film that has generated rumblings as to being a potential surprise, not upset, but shock should it come out on top.
Best Documentary Short Subject
I have a guess on this one, but it has nothing to do with anything other than the fact it is the one I am guessing will win. This is the only category of the bunch that I have not seen any of the films or even heard any of them discussed. So go forth and predict.
Best Documentary
I have only seen one of the five nominees so I can’t really add much to this conversation even if I wanted, although I think this is a fairly obvious category considering the impact the film has had already.
Best Foreign Language Film
A category that rarely satisfies all parties, that is even if it has all the films that most think should have been nominated. Personally, my top film of 2009 and another that made my top ten are in this category, but will either of them walk away with the gold?
Best Short Film (Animated)
For the animated and live-action categories I will simply point you in the direction of my reviews. You can get all the opinion you could ever want or need on the animated category here as well as watch all five animated shorts.
Best Short Film (Live Action)
You can get my thoughts on all five live-action shorts right here as well as watch my favorite of the bunch. You should also be able to catch all of the shorts domestically On Demand via Comcast, Time Warner, Cox and Bright House Networks.

If you made it all the way to the end, I congratulate you, that’s a lot of work and it is much appreciated when everyone contributes to the best of his/her ability. I will have my predictions online on Thursday, March 4 and will be here live-blogging with winners and commentary all throughout Sunday’s Oscar telecast so be sure to come back and spend an evening with me and the rest of the readers at RopeofSilicon.com.
