News Bites: ‘Iron Man 2,’ ‘Red Dawn,’ ‘Venom’ Spin-Off, ‘Lost Boys 3,’ ‘Playboy’ and Much More

To the right are two videos from the set of the Red Dawn remake and just above is an image of Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek) and Tom Cruise’s son Connor from the set of the very same remake and you can click here to see even more in which nothing is happening. What fun!

Next is a bit of news that surfaced late last week as Bloody Disgusting reported that Lost Boys 3: The Thirst is ready to begin filming this November in New Zealand with Dario Piana directing and Corey Feldman and Jamison Newlander starring. The plot goes as follows:

When veteran vampire hunter Edgar Frog finds himself destitute and almost friendless, he thinks his live has hit bottom – but wealthy vampire-romance novelist Gwen Liebling offers him a small fortune to go on the vampire hunt of a lifetime and rescue her son Peter from the Alpha Vampire D.J.Dusk. With the help of his friends Zoe, Lars and Blake, Edgar heads into a bloody battle to exterminate evil.

The film is another Warner Premiere title, which means you will be looking for it on DVD and Blu-ray, not in theaters.

Zombieland co-writer Paul Wernick was talking to Sci Fi Wire about the script for the Spider-Man 3 spin-off Venom, which he worked on with Rhett Reese (Zombieland and Cruel Intentions 3), saying, “We’ve written two drafts of Venom, and the studio has it, and they’re pushing forward in whatever ways they push forward… Basically, the studio and Marvel and the Arads are taking our drafts and going beyond and figuring out what’s the next step.” As to whether or not the script for Venom ties into the upcoming Spider-Man 4 Wernick would not reveal.

To the right is a video from Oren Peli, the writer and director of this past weekend’s limited release Paranormal Activity, thanking audiences for their support and encouraging people to “demand” the film come to their town. As I mentioned at the tail end of my review of the film you can visit Eventful.com to demand the film be added to screens in your city. Peli makes reference to the site in the vid. Personally, the film was the scariest movie I have ever seen and I hope all of you get a chance to see it in a theater rather than on DVD. Here’s to hoping…

Speaking of Oren Peli, Production Weekly reports he will get started on a supernatural thriller titled Area 51 in mid-October on location in Utah and Las Vegas. The story involves “found footage” of a group who attempt to locate and break into the legendary secret military base rumored to house a crashed UFO. So, like Paranormal Activity, it will include something of a first person camera approach to the material, but based on the sound of it we are looking at a [REC] approach to things. There is no word on what studio he is making the film for, but one would assume Paramount Pictures, which is distributing Paranormal Activity.

A rumor is floating around the net thanks to Playboy honcho Hugh Hefner as he posted the following message on his Twitter account, “Meeting with Diablo Cody to talk about the Brian Grazer Playboy film today.” The film he is referring to is Universal’s Playboy with Brett Ratner attached to direct.

Speaking of Brett Ratner, The Playlist points us to an article at The Hollywood Reporter about Beverly Hills Cop 4 saying the film is a “huge priority” for Paramount and there is a current concern for what kind of car Eddie Murphy as Axel Foley will drive in the film. “What are my needs for the story?” he explained in describing his search for an organic solution. “What car do I need that can become a character in the movie?”

The folks at Punch Drunk Ciritcs interviewed Danny Trejo and he insinuates he has been cast in the Robert Rodriguez produced Predators film. Click here to watch the video.

Geoffrey Rush recently spoke with MTV about the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and said, “They’re waiting for the screenplay writers to put together something that’s beyond the trilogy, take it off into a new direction so that it’s fresh and hopefully really interesting for an audience, that they’re not going to just sausage-machine out something else, which wouldn’t be so good.” You can watch the interview here.

Above is our first look at Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps compared to his 1987 counterpart. Picture comes courtesy of The Daily Mail.

Douglas also recently spoke with Empire Online about the film saying, “Gordon has done about eight years in jail and got out in about 2001. The picture predominantly focuses on these last couple of years on Wall Street, which nobody anticipated. We shot the first one in 1986 and it was a wild, wild colorful time. And here we have both a train crash and a larger-than-life period leading up to that train crash. It’s an exciting time to make a picture about Wall Street.”

The videos aren’t done yet as this little not safe for work clip from what I understand is the “Entourage” season finale in which Matt Damon, with help from Lebron James, strong arms Vince (Grenier) to get involved in his charity. In the clip Damon is directing a charitable TV spot, but Grenier isn’t getting it right causing Damon to blow up. Many are debating the legitimacy of it, but trust me, it’s simply a very well edited promo for the show.

Rogue Pictures has a little self-promo site titled I Am Rogue in which they have released several images from the set of David O. Russell’s The Fighter starring Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg. Along with the images there is a video, which I have added directly below. Click here to browse the pics.

Finally, Sam Rockwell spoke with IGN at Fantastic Fest about Iron Man 2 saying, “[Iron Man 2 has] a bigger scope. There’s a lot more action and fighting. More characters. It’s bigger and there’s a lot more to get your head around, so it’s a tougher job for [Jon] Favreau and Justin Theroux, who wrote it.”

When speaking about his character, the weapons dealer Justin Hammer, he said, “He’s a rival of Tony’s – they are competitors in the weapons industry. I team up with Michey Rourke and we decide we want to take him down and take down the Stark legacy. He’s sort of like a cousin of the Charlie’s Angels character I played. The smarmy cousin. But it’s Mickey – he does the fighting and the kicking ass in the film.”
