Jonathan Liebesman to Direct King Arthur Epilogue Man at Arms

Although Warner Bros. Pictures has a King Arthur “origin story” in the works with Guy Ritchie’s now-in-production feature Knights of the Round Table, Thunder Road Pictures is developing a very different take on the legend. Man at Arms, scripted by Jeremy Lott, was first announced five years ago but is now moving forward with, per Deadline, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Battle: Los Angeles helmer Jonathan Liebesman attached to direct.

Lott’s script, likened to Unforgiven, serves as an epilogue of sorts to the legend. Set after the fall of Camelot, Man at Arms follows an older Sir Lancelot who, feeling remorse about his affair with Queen Guinevere, becomes determined to set things straight.

Lott himself is no strange to legendary English heroes. He has also scripted the Sony Pictures project Hood, a new take on Robin Hood that is being planned to launch its own franchise. Ritchie’s Arthur film, too, has been designed to support multiple features with the long term plan being for seven films to adapt Thomas Mallory’s “Le Morte d’Arthur,” published in 1485 as a compilation of French and English tales.

Thunder Road’s Basil Iwanyk is producing alongside Bryan Brucks and Aperture Entertainment’s Adam Goldworm. Erica Lee is attached to executive produce.
