Stars Assemble for James Franco’s In Dubious Battle

James Franco is getting ready to adapt John Steinbeck’s In Dubious Battle, a 1936 look at communism from the set stage of a fictional California fruit workers’ strike. Today, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Franco, who also plans to star, has assembled an impressive list of co-stars. According to the outlet, Franco will be joined on screen by fellow Academy Award nominee Ed Harris (The Hours, Pollock), Oscar winner Robert Duvall (also currently nominated for his work last year in The Judge), Bryan Cranston (“Breaking Bad,” Godzilla), Vincent D’Onofrio (“Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” “Marvel’s Daredevil”), Selena Gomez (who worked with Franco in Spring Breakers) and Danny McBride (whose previous teamings with Franco include This is the End and Your Highness).

Franco is no stranger to the works of Steinbeck having recently headlined a Broadway revival of Of Mice and Men. The project also reteams Franco with screenwriter Matt Rager, with whom the multihypenate worked on his recent directorial effort, a big screen adaptation of William Faulkner’s 1930 tome As I Lay Dying.
