The Happy Gilmore 2 cast has grown a bit, with star Adam Sandler revealing two people who are set to appear in the upcoming sequel.
During a recent appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Sandler confirmed that NFL superstar Travis Kelce would be appearing in the film in a cameo after Kelce jokingly begged for a role in the film earlier this year.
“Travis has . . . he mentioned it, so we have a nice something for Travis,” Sandler said.
Kelce originally began lobbying for a role in the film on his podcast New Heights, which he hosts alongside his brother, Jason Kelce. Back in May, amid reports the film was coming, Travis joked that he would do anything to get in the film, even if it meant just being an extra.
In a separate interview with IndieWire, Sandler also confirmed that director Benny Safdie would have “a juicy part” in the movie. Sandler and Safdie have worked together on the hit drama Uncut Gems, which Safdie co-directed alongside his brother, Josh.
Who else is in the Happy Gilmore 2 cast?
Currently, not much about the movie or the rest of its cast is known. The project was reported to be in the works as of about two months ago, so information on the movie is still scarce. Adam Sandler will return to play the titular role in the film, and Shooter McGavin actor Christopher McDonald also revealed in March that he had seen a draft of the script.
Directed by Dennis Dugan, Happy Gilmore was released in United States theaters in February 1996. The film was a commercial success for Universal Pictures, earning approximately $39 million at the global box office off an estimated $12 million budget.
Happy Gilmore 2 does not yet have a release date. Happy Gilmore, meanwhile, is currently streaming on Netflix.
