Doug Liman reveals progress on Edge of Tomorrow 2
While talking to Collider, Doug Liman acknowledged that it would be the right time to make a sequel to Edge of Tomorrow, considering Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt’s immense star power, and said that he is “trying to crack it.”
Liman said in the interview, “I mean, Emily Blunt and Tom Cruise have never been more on top of their game than they are right now. I’d be crazy not to be trying to, you know, figure out how to make a sequel. So I am spending time trying to crack it.”
However, the director also accepted the hardships that occur while conceptualizing a script that involves time travel. While giving further updates on Edge of Tomorrow 2, The Bourne Identity director said, “Time travel’s really tough. All you have to do is develop a movie with time travel to come to the conclusion that humans will never travel through time because it’s hard to figure out a third act in a movie with time travel.”
Liman admitted a sequel would be a guaranteed success. However, he also emphasized the importance of having a strong narrative, irrespective of the popularity of the original, saying, “We have too much pride in our work to ever take the easy bait.”
According to the updates provided by Liman, Edge of Tomorrow 2 is currently stuck in a conceptual phase. Nevertheless, his statements also confirm that plans for a sequel have yet to be abandoned completely. The acclaimed director is currently busy with promotions for his next film, The Instigators.
