Paramount Pictures has greenlit Johannes Roberts’s new horror movie Primate, which will star Oscar winner Troy Kotsur.
Primate plot details are currently unknown, but it is going to be a horror movie.
Primate is part of former DC Films boss Hamada’s mainstream horror genre push for Paramount, which plans to release several low-to-mid-budget films each year across theatrical and streaming platforms.
Johannes Roberts Adds Primate to growing slate
Johannes Roberts will direct Primate, which adds to a growing slate of upcoming projects for the 47 Meters Down and Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City filmmaker. South African Roberts is set to direct Border Patrol with James Wan’s Atomic Monster at Screen Gems. At Paramount, he already has the film Flight in the works.
Kotsur won Best Supporting Actor for his role as the deaf father of an aspiring singer in Sian Heder’s 2021 movie CODA. He will lead the cast of the Walter Hamada-produced movie.
The deaf actor’s other notable credits include Wild Prairie Rose, The Mandalorian, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. He is set to appear in the third season of Apple TV+ show Foundation.
Walter Hamada also has the live-action adaptation of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin on the cards.
