The Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman movie Deadpool & Wolverine is nearing its release date, and fans couldn’t be more excited for their team-up. In the wake of its premiere, Kevin Feige has provided insight into the decision to go with Wolverine’s iconic yellow suit. Despite Jackman having portrayed the character for over two decades, the costume will finally make its debut in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe installment.
Kevin Feige on why Hugh Jackman wears the yellow suit in Deadpool & Wolverine
According to writer-director Shawn Levy, Kevin Feige was adamant about introducing the yellow mustard-colored costume from the get-go in Deadpool & Wolverine.
As per Variety, the Marvel Studios president insisted on going with the aforementioned suit as soon as Hugh Jackman’s return in Deadpool & Wolverine was confirmed. Feige stated that not showcasing the claw-bearing superhero in his most recognizable attire was similar to Superman appearing in 10 movies and “never wearing the Superman costume.” He still praised Jackman’s masterful portrayal of Wolverine over the years. Despite the costume’s absence, the audiences have always praised the character in each of its appearances. “It’s a testament to Wolverine that it didn’t necessarily matter; the character is more than the costume,” Feige added.
Nonetheless, with Wolverine now part of the ever-expanding MCU, fans will finally get to see the character in its full glory. The rebellious hero will join forces with Ryan Reynolds’ red-clad mercenary in Deadpool & Wolverine. Interestingly, the movie will also mark the first official appearance of mutants in the MCU. Feige also tapped into the possibility of mutants occupying a central role in the future of the franchise. He stated that there already have been hints of beings with mutant genes in the MCU. However, he shied away from disclosing when such a development would occur.
Deadpool & Wolverine will come out in theaters on July 26, 2024.
