A copyright filing has seemingly revealed the title of Nia DaCosta’s 28 Years Later sequel, and it’s a pretty interesting one.
According to the filing, The 28 Years Later sequel is set to be titled 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple. It’s a title that will undoubtedly spawn all manner of theories about what’s going on in this new trilogy. Currently, there are no actual plot details on any of these films beyond the obvious fact that they take place 28 years after the events of the first film. Perhaps The Bone Temple could point to some sort of cult that has grown in the years gone by?
Who is directing the 28 Years Later sequel?
Nia DaCosta previously directed Candyman and The Marvels. She’s currently on writing, directing, and producing details for the film Hedda with Tessa Thompson, based on the stage play Hedda Gabler.
The first film in the trilogy will be directed by Danny Boyle. It will see Cillian Murphy return to the series for the first time since the original movie. Alex Garland will also return to write the screenplay for all entries.
The first film’s cast also includes Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Erin Kellyman, Ralph Fiennes, and Jack O’Connell.
Sony Motion Pictures Group chairman Tom Rothman recently teased that Cillian Murphy’s return as Jim in the film will be done “in a surprising way and in a way that grows.”
There’s no word on who will direct the third entry in the Sony-back 28 Years Later trilogy. But the same production team, including Garland, Boyle, and Murphy, will be on board once more.
28 Years Later will be released in United States theaters on June 20, 2025.
