Emily Blunt in Talks to Star in Steven Spielberg’s Next Movie

Emily Blunt may have found her next role, as the actress is in talks to star in Steven Spielberg‘s next movie.

Blunt hasn’t reached a deal to star in the film just yet, but according to a report from Deadline, the Oscar-nominated actress is in “early talks” to star in Spielberg’s mysterious new movie at Universal and Amblin.

The report mentions that, should she sign onto the movie, she would play one of two lead roles in the movie. Currently, no other casting information is available.

Blunt is coming off an extremely successful 2023, where she starred in Christopher Nolan’s massive hit Oppenheimer, a role that earned her a Best Supporting Actress nomination at the 96th Academy Awards. Most recently, she also appeared in IF, and will also star opposite Dwayne Johnson in A24’s The Smashing Machine.

What do we know about Steven Spielberg’s next movie?

Spielberg’s next film will be backed by Universal Pictures and is set to open on May 15, 2026. As of yet, it’s unclear what the project will be called or even about, although previous reports did note that Spielberg was working on an original UFO story.

Spielberg will be working with David Koepp on the film, with Koepp writing the script for the project. The pair are no strangers to each other, with Koepp having written 1993’s Jurassic Park, 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, 2005’s War of the Worlds, and 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull for Spielberg.

Spielberg’s last feature film was 2022’s The Fabelmans, a project that was written and directed by Spielberg and told a fictionalized version of his adolescence and first years as a filmmaker.
