Robert Pattinson is attached to produce and potentially star in a remake of 1981’s Possession.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, The Batman’s Pattinson has signed on to produce a remake of Possession that is being directed by Smile’s Parker Finn. He may also star in the forthcoming movie, though that “will be clarified down the road as the script and schedules develop.”
The Possession remake is currently in the early stages, as A24, Netflix, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Bros. are reportedly in a bidding war for the project.
What was the original Possession movie about?
Directed and written by Andrzej Żuławski, 1981’s Possession starred Isabelle Adjani, Sam Neill, Margit Cartensen, and Heinz Bennent.
“After Anna (Adjani) reveals to her husband, Mark (Neill), that she is having an affair, she leaves him and their son,” the synopsis for the movie reads. “Mark is devastated, and seeks out Heinrich (Bennent), the man who cuckolded him, only to receive a beating. After a series of violent confrontations between Mark and Anna, Mark hires a private investigator to follow her. Anna descends into madness, and it’s soon clear that she is hiding a much bigger secret — one that is both inexplicable and shocking.”
Finn is also writing the screenplay for the Possession remake, while Roy Lee also serves as a producer.
Additionally, Finn is currently working on a sequel to 2022’s Smile. The film is currently scheduled to be released on October 18, 2024.
He told ComingSoon in an exclusive 2022 interview, “Never in a million years did I think that people were going to be asking me for another one of these movies, which is amazing! I think there’s a lot of exciting stuff that could be done in the world of Smile. There’ are a lot of corners that I purposely left unexplored and things that I wish I could have done in the first one, but there just wasn’t room to do.”
