Eternals star Barry Keoghan is currently eyeing a role in Amazon MGM Studios‘ upcoming Crime 101 movie based on Don Winslow’s 2020 novella of the same name.
According to TheInSneider, Keoghan has entered negotiations to join fellow Marvel stars Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo in the high-profile project. Further details about the Irish actor’s potential character remained under wraps, while Hemsworth and Ruffalo are expected to play a thief and a detective, respectively. Before Ruffalo’s casting, Pedro Pascal was originally attached to lead the project alongside Hemsworth. However, due to scheduling conflicts, The Last of Us actor had to exit the project.
Should his deal pushes through, this would mark Keoghan’s latest collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios following his memorable performance in Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn movie last year. He will next be seen in Andrea Arnold’s upcoming drama film Bird, which just had its world premiere at the 77th Cannes Film Festival.
What to expect from Crime 101?
“It’s a great crime story in the vein of Heat. High-level jewel thieves are taking place up and down the Pacific Coast, and police have linked the thefts to the Colombian cartels,” reads the synopsis for the novella. “Detective Lou Lubesnick has other ideas, and he zeroes in on one perp, a thief looking for a final score.”
Crime 101 will be written and directed by Bart Layton. The film will be produced by Shane Salerno, Eric Fellner, Tim Bevan, Layton and Dimitri Doganis, and Derrin Schlesinger, with Joely Fether executive producing.
